Great read Scott, we buildup these races in our heads with a finish being a huge part of that. It is certainly a goal as we hit that starting line, but it doesn't define our race or experience.

You nailed so many of the parts of why we do this crazy sport. It's the training, the runs with friends leading up to a big race, traveling to amazing locations, connections, and just being a part of this community!

My absolute favourite running related quote. I read this before and after every race, no matter the end result. #FYB.

I’ve always appreciated DNF reports even more than those of finishers. Especially finishers who don’t admit to going through tough times in the event. Glad I found your Substack. I love your attitude and approach and look forward to doing one of your races someday.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Intellectually, you know that your friends and family don't care whether you finish. They are proud of you either way. So, let it go emotionally...and eat a dick.
