Review - LifeHandle Dog Leash
I ran for about ten years with my old dog Dovi, using a flat 6 foot leash and ordinary prong. He completed ultras and ran thousands of miles with me.
When Dovi died last year I found a new puppy to soften the blow, Broadway’s Astrid, Queen of Bronzeville and ruler of all things.
Astrid was not a particularly good leash walker. And I didn’t have high hopes for her as a leash runner. Nonetheless I was drawn in by a Facebook Ad for a product called Lifehandle ( https://mylifehandle.com ) as a possible leash for Astrid.
Lifehandle is a sling styled leash, kid carrier or everyday carrier. It has a really sturdy 6ish foot leash with a strap at the body point, the halfway point and towards the bottom of the leash. It has a reflective material and a carabiner for connecting to other things you need help carrying.
The website shows the product being used to carry children (with a handle attachment) heavy objects, shovel and, as a leash. Thus far I’ve only used it as a leash.
I like having a specific leash to use when running. I feel like it tells the dog we are doing something specific and they learn to behave differently. And when you grab that leash they know something specific is happening.
I’ve been using the Lifehandle leash for about a month now. And I absolutely love it. I feel like it being around my body gives me move leverage against pulling and such. The lower loops allow me to practice holding Astrid close when needed, and, due to the design, I can just let completely go and jog hands free with her. This is a great product, especially for someone like me with back problems. When I picture myself in a waist leash I imagine it really hurting my back. This really doesn’t.
It’s built very sturdy, the arm sling is soft and cushioned, and the reflective surface is really helpful.
Astrid has become a really good runner. She doesn’t pull much. And I think this product really helped me leash train her.
If your dog is a total spaz, no leash is going to work well. So don’t expect it to be a cure all. But if you have a reasonably obedient dog who you like to run with, I think you’d be really happy with this product.
Disclosure: I paid for this product. I have not been paid to make this review. As of today’s date the company has no present, past or future plan to provide me with anything of value.
